Merry Christmas!

What a day. Although Scott and I did not get to spend Christmas today with our families, we are thankful for this day and the beautiful people on this world. Long story short...I am extremely grateful for the random acts of kindness from the tow truck guy, his friend (the mechanic), and the mechanic's son. These three gentlemen gave us their time on this holiday to help repair our car.

We started our three hour drive to New Jersey for the holiday when out of no where, Scott's back tire blew just as we were making our way through D.C.. We thought "Hey, it's okay since we've got a donut wheel", but little did we know that one of the lug nuts was stripped and corroded to the stud. Basically meaning, it was being one stubborn nut!

While on the side of the road, multiple cars stopped to offer help and assistance. We kindly thanked them and told them we had a tow truck on route and we would be fine for the time being. A little while later our tow truck driver arrived and was pleasantly upbeat for being on the clock on a holiday. He hooked up the car to pull it to the next exit where he could re-examine the situation.

Upon realizing that a mechanic would need to be involved, he offered up two solutions; one being rather unorthodox. Either we could have the car towed to a place of our choosing, or we could see if his mechanic friend who lived down the road, was home and able the help.

Trusting the winds of fate, we decided to see if his friend was home, being that this would mean immediate service and it was the closest option. Luckily he and his son were out front working on a car when we pulled up. Without hesitation he took on the challenge wholeheartedly. Between the three of them, a dynamic tow truck, several forced on socket wrenches, a blow torch, and a rather large hammer, the job was done and the wheel finally came off.

Even after saying our thank yous, goodbyes, and wishing them a merry Christmas, the tow truck driver insisted on leading us to a gas station to check the tire pressure on the remaining tires and the doughnut for our safety.

So anyway, my long story short, God bless these people and their good will. I snapped this picture while we were waiting for our tire to be fixed, just to remind myself of all the good that came from today's events.

Hope you all are having wonderful times spent with your loved ones. Merry Christmas, dear friends!

Holiday Inspiration: Gift Wrapping

Hey there! With Christmas just around the corner, I've decided to post a little bit of gift wrapping inspiration for all of you last minute wrappers {like myself}. I kind of took the inspiration from these four websites and wrapped them up into all my gifts (hehe, no pun intended). So, hopefully you are able to find some last minute inspiration through these posts too!

1. DIY Hand Lettered Gift Wrap by the sweetest occasion | 2. DIY Pinecones and Polkadots Gift Wrap by the charley girl | 3. DIY Festive Wrapping with Holiday Gift Tag by oh so beautiful paper | 4. DIY Washi Tape Bunting by annixen

Supplies:
+ kraft wrapping paper / gift boxes
+ washi tape
+ scissors
+ twine or string
+ sharpies / pencils / pens
+ stencils
+ assorted gift tags / festive paper

Please Note: I kind of went bunting-happy while wrapping these. ;)

This Christmas, Scott and I will be spending the day with my family in New Jersey to visit some family friends from when I lived in Japan. {FYI: The Hemphill's make some of the most delicious meals during the holidays; my tummy is more than thrilled to make the three-and-a-half hour drive up north!} If only these next two days of vacation could somehow turn back into a week though?

Until my next post, I would like to wish you all the Hope, Wonder, and Joy that the season can bring!
Happy Holidays, dear friends.

a year in review: fromwhereistood

I have been officially off from work and on my little stay-cation break for about three days now, and I must admit that I could really get used to this feeling! Scott and I took a much needed grocery trip to the store yesterday so that we could fill up our fridge with yummy things to enjoy on our week off together. When you don't have much planned though, the time seems to really go by fast!

Speaking of fast, this year flew by in a jiffy! Although 2012 did not feel half as busy as 2011, I still enjoyed the moments that were made and experiences that were given.  I was able to concoct a little review from some of my Instagram photos of the various places I've stood throughout the past two years. It's fun to see where life brings you in a years time...

As far as plans for this next week off, I don't have much planned, and I plan on keeping it that way. ;) Hopefully I am able to sneak in a little photography adventure though {while I have some free time to do so}! Until then, have yourselves a lovely weekend.

Great Falls Park, Virginia

This past weekend, Scott and I went up north {and by north, I mean half an hour} to explore about Great Falls Park, Virginia! In the past two years of living in northern Virginia, we had no idea that such a place even existed in the outskirts of the D.C. area! We are more than thrilled about finding this gem, and cannot wait to make a trip back. Oh, and I hear there is a Maryland side to the falls that is known to be even prettier!

I am so thankful to have brought my camera on this little adventure of ours. I was able to test out my new Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8  lens that was recently gifted to me. I am in absolute love with this wide lens!

Also, I just love this quote by Jason Mraz: “Here’s to freedom, cheers to art. Here’s to having an excellent adventure, and may the stopping never start.”

Happy Tuesday to you!

Phonto: And It's Greatness

Hello all!

For those of you that follow my Instagram account, you may have noticed that many of my pictures include text or some kind of typography. Many of you have asked how I am able to do this and find the pretty fonts, so here is a quick blog post to share what I know.

The app I use to place text onto my Instagram pictures is free and is called Phonto. It looks like this:

Once you've downloaded the app onto your iPhone/iPod, check out some of the free fonts offered by these websites {on your computer}:

1. DaFont
2. FontSquirrel
3. FontSpace

After downloading AND installing several fonts to your computer, connect your iPhone/iPod to your iTunes.

This next step is VERY important. Once your iPhone is connected to your iTunes, select File --> then Transfer Purchases to iPhone/iPod.  This step simply makes sure that all of your recent downloads/purchases are up-to-date and in sync with your computer.

Next, while in your iTunes, select the Apps tab for your device. Scroll down and you should see the Phonto app (along with any other app that allows you to transfer content from your computer to iDevice). From here on, you can upload any or all fonts that you previously downloaded to your computer. Keep in mind that the more fonts you upload, the slower your device may be because of memory usage.

Hopefully my little tutorial makes sense! Comment below if you have any questions regarding the process, and I will try my best to answer/help you out. Thank you, a million times and more, for the encouragement and support you guys give me each day. It means so much to know that people actually appreciate my work.

I wish you all a beautiful evening/morning wherever you may be!

Hello, Autumn

Hey y'all, it's fall, and I'm feeling good! There's nothing more complete to me than a chilly, fall afternoon with a cup of coffee in hand. Pumpkin spice coffee, to be exact!

{ ingredients }
>> 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

>> 1/2 tsp vanilla
>> 1 tbsp(ish) sugar or pure maple syrup
>> 1 cup coffee
>> lite whip cream

The pure maple sugar was a great suggestion from someone I'll be trying next time. I hope you enjoy its yumminess as much as I do. This will save you several bucks from buying that Starbucks latte this season too!

Thank God for this beautiful season!

Shenandoah National Park

Hello there, friends! This is a somewhat late post about my adventures exploring about Shenandoah National Park two weeks ago with my love and our puppy, Baxley (you can cross that off of my summer to-do list now). Every year, Scott and I always make a point to go camping since we moved to Virginia two years ago. This past trip we went on was more laid back. Normally, we like to go on several major hikes to view the waterfalls throughout the park, but we just decided to keep it cool and relax a bit more. It was wonderful.

Although the mountains are amazing, they still do not compare to a week up in northern  Michigan at the lake. ;)

During this hot weekend we have planned ahead, I wish for you all to keep cool and stay plenty hydrated. Popsicles might already be sold out, so you better stock up now!

Summer Festivities

Hi there! Where did the time go? Summer creeped up on me so fast that I have barely made any time (or effort) to post on here. Life is good though, and I cannot complain. :) Here are some things I've already accomplished and some things to look forward to during the next three months of sunshine and greatness...

  >> Camping in Shenandoah
  >> Kayaking
  >> White Water Rafting at Harper's Ferry
  >> DC Chili Cookoff
  >> Learn how to play poker
  >> Weekend trip to Ocean City (or Virginia Beach)
  >> Vacation in Wyoming to visit the Fantozzi's
  >> Read, read, read on my patio

I know there's more to add to this list, but for now, these will do. And I plan on documenting all! Now for some snapshots of what I have been up to lately, via my Instagram.

I personally love the Instax Polaroid snapshot of my me and my boys (Scott and Baxley).  I cannot get over Baxley's squished, yet happy, facial expression. :)

Now, go enjoy your day. :)

Sunday Morning

Good Morning all!

What a beautiful day it has been so far, and I thought what better way to start it than with a batch of Banana Pancake Bites (provided by www.emilybites.com)! I recently discovered her wonderful recipe blog a week ago on Pinterest, and since then, I have already made at least three of her tasty recipes.

Banana Pancake Bites
Ingredients:
1 cup Bisquick Heart Smart Pancake & Baking Mix
2/3 cup skim milk
½ cup reduced calorie breakfast syrup
1 large ripe banana, chopped into small pieces

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray muffin pan with non-stick cooking spray. I personally love Smart Balance's!
2. In a medium bowl, mix together the Bisquick Pancake mix, milk, and breakfast syrup. Pour batter evenly into each muffin cup.
3. Sprinkle the chopped banana on to the tops of each muffin cup.  Place in the oven, and cook for about 12-15 minutes.
4. Once finished, let muffins cool for about 5 minutes.  Enjoy with a small glass of skim milk!

These were SO good, and had just the right amount of sweetness and banana in each bite.  It did not take much effort to make them either, considering how delicious they were. I am definitely saving this for future lazy mornings! :)

Much to do today, and a friend's BBQ is schedule for this afternoon...love when I am able to say that.  Hello summer! Have yourselves a lovely Sunday!

Month of Snapshots

Oh, hello there! Do I know you? ;)

So, instead of giving this whole long spiel on what I have been up to since my last post, I will simply just post snapshots of the events that have taken place since then.  Among these events, include a wedding, spring, photo shoots, and my new camera/lens.

Also, I was featured last week on a blog called Instagram Talk that you may read about HERE! :) A big thanks to all of my supporters out there, you are loved.

There are more exciting events coming up, which of course means more photos to share with you lovely people (a whopping four of you). Either way, I am thankful for the time you take out of your day to read this little blog of mine.

Have a lovely April day!
